Water and Flood Damage Restoration Processes | Dependable Remediation Services Augusta GASteps of a water damage restoration:

  1. Make contact – Contacting the restoration company is the first step in the restoration of your property and personal items. Our team will ask questions to determine the equipment and resources necessary to handle your situation.
  2. Initial inspection – We will begin by determining what is wet, how wet it is, if the wet items are damaged, and whether or not the items are salvageable.
  3. Water extraction – Removal of as much water as possible through extraction with pumps and vacuums will speed up the drying time and minimize damage.
  4. Drying – With the use of air movers and dehumidifiers we can increase rate of evaporation on the wet surfaces and dry the air to dry wet surfaces.
  5. Cleaning – When necessary, all salvageable items will be cleaned and sanitized.
  6. Restoration – Any items that require removal during the drying process will be restored to its pre-damaged condition.

Sources of water damage:

  1. Broken plumbing pipe
  2. Leaking plumbing pipe
  3. Toilet overflow
  4. Water heater
  5. Regional flooding
  6. Weather related incident
  7. Roof leak
  8. Appliance failure

Categories of water:

  • Category 1 – Water that comes from a clean source that poses no substantial risk of causing illness (i.e. supply pipes).
  • Category 2 – Water that carries a significant amount of chemical, biological, or physical contamination (i.e. toilet overflow containing no sewage, dishwasher, washing machine, fish tank, etc).
  • Category 3 – Water from a grossly unsanitary source or carries disease causing agents or both. This type of water is referred to as “black water”. I.e. water originating from beyond the trap on sewer and septic systems and surface ground waters.

Classes of water loss:

  • Class 1 – Water loss with slow rate of evaporation because very little water is present.
  • Class 2 – Water loss with a faster rate of evaporation because more water is present and more materials are wet.
  • Class 3 – Water loss with the fastest rate of evaporation because of more water and a larger area affected.
  • Class 4 – Water loss with the slowest rate of evaporation because of low porosity materials such as hardwood floors, brick, concrete, stone, etc.

Tips to help during a water damage:

  • Mop up excess water prior to arrival of technician.
  • Remove mats and rugs from floors and hang to dry.
  • Block furniture legs to prevent contact with any carpet.
